LOL! A bit touchy, aren't we? Did I say you did not know they want everyone to pay? Don't assume that you know I am assuming something that you assume that I am assuming. I think you should reread what I posted and look at what I did say. It is my opinion, and my viewpoint. That's all. Mileage may vary. :D
lolz damn your batty
Chips are meant to be permanent additions to your equipment, not hot-swapped constantly. There's no gem cost at low levels so that you can experiment and get to know how chips work.
We want players to be faced with interesting decisions. Do you use a level 4 chips or wait for a level 5? Or even higher? If you make a mistake, you can pay gems to undo it, if its a big deal to you.
We just made getting chips a lot easier in the last patch, by adding level 3 and 4 chips to Labyrinth rewards. All players now have access to level 4 and even level 5 chips with some patience. The removal cost is there so that you have to plan ahead and decide between immediate upgrades or waiting for more powerful chips.
Ok serious question. How long do you expect the average player to play a server. I assume its at least 3 years since it takes over 2 years to get every spirit plan from lab. TO get one level 15 chip, assuming you can get 2 level 4 chips from placing 1st in both banish events daily 2 level 4 chips from lab a day, and buy every chip available in fair, and get a 2 level 1 chips between shuffle tiles in lab and guild chests per day, and assuming every chip you get is the same chip it would take 1274 years to get 1 level 15 chip.
SO what is the point? Why do chips go to level 15? Why not just stop them at say level 7? If they stopped at 7 then it would be more reasonable. I still think getting rid of the removal cost is best. Or if teh chips are going to go to level 15 and now level 4 chips are more common, change when the removal fee kicks in. Have it start at level 6.
I think there is a way to adjust what is there to make it more reasonable to more players, and still accomplish the original goals.
If you wanted us to plan ahead there should of been warning of the costs before We started putting them on. My gear was almost full b4 i started to try taking them off. I just feel sorry for the lil guys.
Then why allow them to upgrade so high? Why allow them to be removed at all after level 3? Why add the merge function so that existing chips can be made better and then artificially limit the pool you can merge from with an arbitrarily high gem cost ($10 to remove a single chip...I can buy an indulgent lunch for that price)?
That's not interesting, it limits choice more than having no gem cost does. By adding a gem cost to removing a chip, I already know that once I place a chip, it's done. I have no choice here. I don't have the choice to cannibalize existing level 4 or 5 chips on my gear to make a more powerful level 6 chip at the expense of my other gear. I'm simply stuck waiting for other chips to come around that I can use.
I have less interesting decisions directly because of the gem cost than I would have without it. At least without it I would have to weigh the benefit of removing current gems to make stronger ones. Would losing 5 level 4 chips in my gear for a level 5 on a single hero be worth it? Maybe, maybe not, but I can't make that choice because Tynon has told me they don't want me making that choice.
So why not just be up front and say you're replicating an experiment done for toddlers by scientists many years ago? We all know about delayed gratification. If you're just conducting a psychological experiment I understand but don't say it makes the game more interesting when it fundamentally limits the available choices for any intelligent player.
I was not aware of the cost to remove level 4 chips until I tried to remove one and by then I had a lot of them in my equipment. Now I am stuck with them. 100 Gems is a huge penalty when there was no warning that if I wanted to remove it that is what it would cost.
