There is still a 44% failure rate, so I am not sure why you assumed that it would work.
This system is made specifically for those with extreme deep pockets.
Those that have more than 7 stars aren't exactly the ones with extreme luck, Nor did Lady Luck Smile Upon them.
The result is instead from having to spend exponential amounts of money.
Its my suggestion that this game should not be advertised as a "FREE-TO-PLAY". Instead, this should be advertised as "PAY-TO-WIN".
(ANARCHY FTW!! CAUSE I WILL NEVER PUT UP WITH IT LYING DOWN!)
Some of the ones with 7 star heroes were extremely lucky. For example, me and my Adamanti. I got him up to 7 stars without a single fail anywhere along the line. Haven't tried pushing him up past there because I really have no intention of buying purple medals anytime soon.

what she said.
That is part of the system, It entices players to get more on the premise that you will get more.
Sadly, that is not the case, So far those that are not seen favorably by the devs, or the moderators, are just silenced, and thrown into a corner and told to shut up or else.
Other than that, congrats.

well i'm vip4 and bought 30 stars to upgrade my main toon ....i only got to 5 stars so your theory on "pay to play" is way off it's simply calculated risk i'd love to have more than 5 though :)
I have 4 heroes with 10 stars.. never coined to get medals either so it's perfectly possible, just takes a lot of patience. I had my main on 14 and went all the way back to 9, didn't play for a few days to say the least lol. The only thing they could change about star system is having a loss of 0 stars somewhere in the purple moons :)
Yes and I'm not sure but I guess 56% probably has more chances of working. I just tried upgrading Destroyer Herja with 88% success rate and, oh, it failed. Hang on, I'm not entirely sure why I assumed that it would work.
Being vip and spending gems on stars are 2 diff things. He said he never coined for medals. Since the start of the new CW. Tickets are where its at. Took me about 15k or 20k tickets to get 9 stars. so 10 for 2000 tickets thats about 75 to 100 stars to reach 9.
Reaching 7 was easy. It was the drop between 7 and 8 that took the longest in the upgrade. Cianna is currently having stars issue tho. Cant get her past 6, Design flaw i guess. Just glad my main is at 9 wont be going any further either. Purple stars cost as much as a starbucks drink. No thanks.
Took me well over 100 stars to get adam to 8 stars (maybe it's because 3 stars per upgrade?). It's like 2% to get there without fails and less than 6% to get there each time after you fail. Just saying it requires quite a bit of luck to get your stars up, but I'm pretty convinced the probabilities are not consistent or accurate anyway.

the 75 to 100 i was referrring to my main hero. Cianna is only 2 stars to upgrade and is being a pain.....
Edit: Also congrats on adam, I got him at 6 and scared to pull the trigger till next CW.
