The glitches, bugs and game changes are the reason why most beta game servers rarely make it to live ones. I know some are hoping beta will become "server 1" but in all honesty the more beta goes on the less likely that's becoming.
Beta is about testing, so when the game goes live the bugs, lag and gameplay are improved ready for the live game. The advantages are you have already have had game experience and you contributed to the game development. The disadvantages are you have to weather bug, lag and game changes on a regular bases. That and having to begin again when the live server launches.
