Thread: cpu usage

    cpu usage

While playing last night I noticed the game slow down a TON. I mean almost literally stopping.
I thought Shockwave was about to crash Again. That happens a lot.
I opened the task manager and saw that cpu usage was maxxed. Flatlined at 100%.
I run chrome on my desktop and my laptop. The problem was first noticed on the desktop.
I started the game on the laptop and ran task on it. Cpu usage was at 60%.
I then ran the game on explorer. Cpu usage was at 1%-3% with spikes for events.
As I type this I am updating explorer on the desktop to check performance.
I haven't run it on other browsers.

Yes, my desktop sucks. My laptop has more memory but a slower cpu. (both are celeron. (yes I need better))
That doesn't explain why chrome was max cpu usage though.

Are there any other players that have noticed slow gameplay? Erratic display of combat?
I talked to a guildy with the same issue. I am wondering if it's isolated or if it is more widespread and needs fixed soon.

There's your problem mate, you really should get AT LEAST a duo core, but I would recommend an intel i3 for this game to work ok. An i5 or i7 will run it with no lag.

The lappy is a dual core celeron.
That doesn't explain why chrome gets maxxed and explorer barely get's scratched.

Flash, Shockwave and Java games and apps all use a TON of RAM. I have a newer ( 6 month old) PC with a good AMD processor. And yeah, still have incredible lag on the game. Some of that is due to me generating fractal for a living while playing the game. Some has to do with playing on Chrome, which is a RAM hog too. IE does seem yo run the smoothest for the game, but crashes consistently if I am running a fractal generator or 2. And since I generate fractals to make money, I am ALWAYS running a fractal generator or 2. 24/7. RAM is maxed out on my PC and my laptop. I'd play from the laptop exclusively, but the small screen size and the fact that the little bugger gets HOT keeps me from doing that.

It's a combination of RAM, CPU useage and type, and the UBER low bandwidth servers Tynon uses getting overloaded when events are on.

Again, my point is being missed.
Exact same time, exact same comp, different browser.
Chrome bogs down. Explorer doesn't. I haven't tried it with mozilla and firefox. CBA to get em.
Why would the browser make that much of a difference? No plugins or add-ons for either.
They are both as bare bones as they get.

He is not imagining things, and it's not just his CPU.

I have 3G of memory, 64x 2 dual core processor with NVIDA chip set and grafix card. I use Opera web browser. Opera runs so much better than any other browser I have used. BUt if the game is left open for a long period of time, as is encouraged by the automatic training while standing in town, the CPU usage climbs higher and higher. Eventually I start freezing up. I have the minimum processes running in task manager to keep the PC going. Very healthy system with WebRoot secure anywhere anti virus/malware prtection.

Recently ran a profile of my PC using Belarc:
Hitachi HDT725040VLA SCSI Disk Device (400.09 GB) -- drive 0, s/n VFK301R3DL6P9K, SMART Status: Healthy 2944 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

So I know for a fact, nothing is wrong with my PC and hardware.

This game will drag your PC down. LOnger it is open, worse it gets.

Normal running, with no browser open uses less then 750-850mb of memory, and 0-1% of the processor.
It will get over half the memory use and 60% of the processor with spikes to 90%

Every now and then I have to close browser, go to task manager, make sure it's really all the way gone, and then re-open. When I do it runs great again for some time. After hours of being open I have to repeat.

This game is heavy on the RAM. I found that increasing my cache size helped a little but it still requires daily CC cleaning (which also helps). Use the private browsing function and turn off your cookies. Refresh every so often.

I now use Opera but originally I used chrome, which was unfortunately for this game too unstable.

It won't solve the problems entirely but it makes it less annoying.

OK I'm glad I'm not the only one who's system gets bogged down. After looking at David's CPU usage I guess mine is doing good at only 36% with IE, Chrome, Firefox and Skype running. It just seems like the system struggles so much and mine is only 6 months old also.

On my old pc - Dual Core 2,600 Mhz, 2 Gb ram, 1024 video Geforce GTX-250, windows XP sp3, my firefox game was running at 10-14 FPS and 10-20 in Chrome (with people turned off, in some empty dungeon). Game was taking 70-99% CPU.

Then i brought new pc - Core i5 3000 Mhz, 4 Gb ram, Geforce GT-640 2 Gb video, Windows 7 - Firefox works all the time 30 FPS. Game taking 20-30% CPU in city center with turned on players, while moving around like crazy.

Morale - chage your PC for better perfomance.

This don't happen to me on other games, such as Diablo 3.

Give me the money and I will buy new PC

No one is going to purchase a new PC or hardware for this game when others do just fine.... that was just stupid.
