I also have personal experience in purchasing a card in using it to get the hero. After purchasing the card I thought it could only be used to sanctify but I clicked use for fun and it gave me the hero. I imagine you would have to have the reputation to be able to get them normally, I did in the case of the hero I got, The Mad Chemist.

When you use the card to recruit the hero does it cost the extra credits or spirits that it would normally take or the card covers both hero and saint?

I already answered this but yes, THIS HAS BEEN CHANGED RECENTLY... cards from the fair or heavens palace can give you the hero (recruited) if you did not previously have him. I received an Adamanti card from heavens palace 3 weeks ago and was holding on to it for when I recruited him. Someone in my guild mentioned that the change had gone into effect and I could get him from the card by selecting the "USE" option. I PERSONALLY did this and recruited Adamanti from the card (3 weeks later than I should have sadly).

So to re-emphasize....

YES YOU CAN RECRUIT A HERO FROM A CARD NOW BY USING THE "USE" OPTION ON THE CARD!

hopefully people will stop saying different.

Well, if it has changed Tynon really should have told us and no one has posted proof that it is indeed possible.

It works on server 6, so I assume it holds for all of the original servers

Yup, it works on all servers it seems. We tested in Odin last to great joy...
