Listen up - I GUARANTEE you that this will bring you so much more user base and play and revenue that you will want to implement this. It will also be HUGE FUN for everyone since it leverages more of the SOCIAL aspect of online MMO gaming.
We need character SOCIAL EMOTICONS - clicking different function keys or animation keystrokes triggers social actions (some class and character race based).
Here is just a simple starter list of social actions users could invoke:
/emote Salute : Character animates a pop to attention and smartly salutes person in front of
/emote Hello : Character animates hand waves to others nearby
/emote Arrrgh : Character animates clenches fists in a rage of "you got me" (after combat or being insulted)
/emote dance : Character animates a dance motion for their class of user (two step, shuffle, marshal arts move, pirouette etc.).
/emote kiss : Character animates a pucker in the cheek or in the air near others
/emote bird : Character animates an obscene (blurry fast) finger gesture or thumbs down to show anger or disapproval
/emote blush : Character animates rosey cheeks and embarassment over something (perhaps said to them in private or in response to another social emoticon)
/emote pray : Character animates a bowing or praying ritual (before going into combat or to acknowledge they are going to their doom - or petitioning gods for good luck [new idea here btw])
/emote sing : Character animates singing a song (appropriate for class and gender - produces real audio)
/emote warcry : Character animates a hooraaah or other hooting sound as if going into combat (with audio)
/emote coinflip : Character animates flipping a coin to make a decision and it produces a real outcome Heads or Tails to appoint the next person to charge the garrison in Guild Wars for example
/emote dieroll : see above - same idea - but produces a random number in x-sides die user specifies to make game decisions for others in group/party
/emote eat : Character animates pulling a turkey leg/ham/apple etc out of his costume and eats it
/emote drink : Character animates drinking water/drink
/emote quaff : Character animates drinking spirits and gets dizzy and stumbles around for a few moments
/emote slap : Character animates slapping a near by targeted (mouse selected) person for being rude or out of line or outrageously too forward/suggestive etc.
/emote flirt : Character animates getting cozy with or rubbing shoulders or wink-wink-nod-nodding another player in a conspicuous way
Blocking a player would block them from invoking close-encounter social emoticons (flirt, kiss, slap etc.) that had you as a target
You can see where this is going - you could have an unlimited list of social emoticons and even open them up to more based on character level or gem play or social training (another skill) to pay for the development costs.
WOULD add a whole new fun social dimension to the game.
