Mattp169, you've made some very nice points. These are good points to take with you/us through life as well. That said, there's also something to be said about perception. If a game is perceived to be dishonest in some way, and favor a particular individual, its credibility suffers. To pay money and time into the game that you perceive as slanted or crooked would be playing the part of the fool.
I get your logic and comparing the game to a casino is right on the mark. Though the casinos have refined their "games of chance" over the years to "appear" much more a "game of skill".
Personally I dislike the predetermined aspect of combat, yet I enjoy the game enough to stick around. Hope things improve.
