    Variance in attacks

Here is what I try to work out.

If I attack the same player twice without either of us changing anything on our set ups why do I hit them with maybe 70k non crit hit one time and 50k non crit hit another time. If you struck someone with a sword the damage wouldn't vary. I understand with an archer arrow in forearm less deadly then an arrow to chest. But the stats on heroes are static. X attack x defense. There is no margin in stats so why do we get such great variance.

There is some sort of pseudo random number generator built into the combat calculations, probably so the game doesn't get too entirely predictable

But rather than chance it would be better to use a straight forward formula and hide opponents stats

    Ive also wondered this alot.

My best answer is that you have a base attack range, not a set in stone number. So when you attack you deal between x1 and x2 damage. That numbers is randomly generated and then all the stats applied to it.

Attack damage is probably in a range, like mattp said.

In other similar games, attack is listed as between a min damage, and a max damage. (ex. PATK: 4500 - 5500)

Stop agreeing with me herby, you are going to cause a snow storm in Hawaii

And having a base attack and defense range makes sense to me.

You could hit someone in the head, the arm, the shoulder, the back, the leg, the stomach etc. Why should a hit in the shoulder be the same damage as an attack on the leg. And what if you hit the thigh versus the calf? And in real life combat you could try to dodge or block and wind up messing that up and causing yourself more damage then had you just taken the hit. SO having a range makes more sense IMO

That's what I assumed herby but as you stated most other games show you a min-max attack/def

Good point they do show the range. But what fun would that be if they just told us how thing work. Its much more fun this way
