Hit rate runes work like this; on a physical attack hero, they will counter dodge. On a Mage they reduce the miss rate.
Magic attacks have a chance of missing. Increasing the hit rate, reduces the chance of the magic attack missing your opponent. Shayd has a particular high miss rate. A good hit rate rune is essential on her.
Only (as far as I'm aware) physical attack heroes can block. From my observations, a hero with a block rune has a higher chance of not being stunned when Shayd hits with her Heart of Darkness. So not only do runes like resistance block physical attacks but stops status attacks from hitting. Applying a break to Shayd should mean she stuns more as she's able to "break" the resistance an opposing hero may have.
