Arena glitch?

Okay, so I defeated someone for their stack of 100 gems in arena. He defeated me back and took them from me. So I defeated him back. This went on like this until Baal Started. He stopped attacking me except for taking my reward, rather then his own. I took it back and went into Baal for a few minutes. Right before I knew the stack of gems was going to time out, I left Baal (knowing it would cost me first place). I sat there and watched the time run down from 50 seconds to 1 second left. At 1 second the gems vanished! No one defeated me. Nothing is showing on my combat log. Why? Why did I lose the gems despite all my efforts? I made sure that my formation would combat his if he were to have attacked me. The last thing on my combat log is "Tynon failed to defeat you and your rank remains." So please can someone tell me why I just lost out on those gems? I am still rank #2 and the #1 person was not online.

Just reinforces my reasons for saying "we need a running event log" (of at least 6 hrs etc.) to confirm what happens in arena, wilds etc. The transient little messages that come and go on the screen like spam are next to useless...

Here's two thoughts:
1) Did you get half of those gems (50 as normal) and just not notice the plus up?
2) Did you have them stolen back from you and due to stale refresh the timing out already occurred ?

About 15-20 minutes after I posted this I finally had the gems in my bag (the normal 50)
