Well i think its fairly obvious they don't agree with us on this whole concept. And its working the way they intended it to be.

Dawn - Could they at least program a warning into the game to tell you there will be a cost to remove a level 4 before you embed it?
ANd could you possibly consider making level 4s free to remove make it level 5s and up, and add the warning in for level 5 and up chips that it will cost gems to remove.

Because I think being told up front there will be a cost is fair, and since so many people have embedded level 4s without knowing, it would be fair to do something about that by making it so the cost to remove starts at level 5 and a warning is added

I agree 100% with the warning. They also need to give some relief to those that embedded level 4 chips because there was no warning. I have spent thousands of dollars on this game and now can not use the level 5 chips and higher that I bought at the Fair.

It's not a choice when youre forced to save chips(untill inventory space is full) due to the exorbitant price you have to pay to remove 1 chip(lightbringer has 6 potential slots so were talking about 3600 gems just to upgrade 1 level on all your gear) im assuming the price doubles as you go up, so were potentially talking about tens of thousands of gems....which is non feasable for about 90% of the playerbase(most likely much more).

In the end it will be much cheaper to spend those gems buying gold and refining your gear....so in the grand scheme of things tynon WILL lose out on potential earnings...

And yet because it costs gems to both unlock slots AND to remove chips at level 4 and above, it's extremely clear what the right choice is. Level 5 and above chips are mandatory for gear because level 4 doesn't justify the cost at all.

You aren't giving players choice, especially since you're not warning them of the cost to remove BEFORE they lock in that level 4. Not only are they then hosed because 100 gems is just....pardon my rudeness, but a stupidly high cost (again, $10), but for those who know about the cost, putting a level 4 chip in would be insanity.

Whatever you want to call it, delayed gratification, cost-benefit, the fact is once a player knows the cost they'd be foolish to put a level 4 chip in their gear because by your high costs both to unlock slots and to remove gems, you have fundamentally limited choice for intelligent players, and I believe most players don't intentionally make stupid choices.

However, your game UI has intentionally allowed them to make dumb choices, and you then gleefully charge them $10 to undo the choice they made that you didn't warn them about. It's messed up at best, dishonest and shady at worst.

Does this make sense? It would be like ordering a sandwich combo at Subway and having them dump your soda on your head because you didn't automatically know you had to pay extra for a cup, and then telling you that it'll be $10 for them to clean up the mess.

This is the last I'll comment on this. I'm just trying to point out a real flaw here that's limiting gameplay. I've been a top player in every MMO I've played and I know what is fun and keeps players around and what drives them away, from subscription-based to F2P models. This "feature" you have going hits players from both sides and is NOT fun and there's clearly backlash from the player base.

So whether you listen to me or not, I don't care much because I'm already doing what's right for my heroes, but you've really ticked off people who plopped in a bunch of level 4 chips and had no warning that each one now costs them $10 to merge or do anything with. Listen to your players or watch them leave, just like happened to Aion, Runes of Magic, and others out there that had great promise but either forgot to keep content rolling out to keep player interest or got too greedy and found that players got fed up with unconscionable greed.

    Well said, Klepto.

As the only player who defended the existence of a removal cost earlier in this thread, let me repeat that I think 100 gems is way too high. So high that, as other players have mentioned, it is not really much of a choice at all.

I wish I would have read this forum thread before embedding one of my level 4 gems. I dont have 10 dollars laying around for an indulgent lunch let alone to pay so I can remove the gem. All well, lesson learned. I'll just have to keep browsing the forums to learn the ins and outs of this game before I run into any more snags in the game. Its a good game too, even despite minor set backs of being penalized for not thinking ahead. I do have to agree with klepto and the others that debate this topic well. 100 gems for every gem thats higher then level 3. Simple math says that hurts the common player who did not take the time to read this post or has the know how or the in game experience. What a killing on cash though. Way to rake it in, its -almost admirable-.

Cigarettes come with a warning label, and people spend thousands of dollars on that too a year. Yet we still feed our addictions, what ever they are and I would rather kill myself inevitably by smoking instead of spend 5 or 10 dollars on this game. Its two sides of the coin Andy. I do agree, they should at least warn you though. ^^
