It is a fairly irrational reward system where its a reward that often times is almost insulting. The one consistent good thing is if you win #1 you still get a nice level 4 Chip for embedding. The bad news is they will charge you to remove it (and not tell you till you discover this fact) if you later want to merge 5 to get a level 5 chip embed.

The only other solace is you get to keep your reputation, credits and coin won - even though depending on number of people competing you might not break even on the cost of boosts...

When you get right down to it - it can be as much a test of being a sucker for abuse as it is a test of fighting power and formation. Not the way a real gamer would design it...
