When I add Sapphires to a Mage's Spirit the power goes up, but when I look at it in the Hero's window it says that it increases Skill Attack, but a Mage does not have a Skill attack.
Am I wasting my resources by putting Sapphires on a Mage's Spirit?

I haven't noticed any increase in Magic Attack. I don't think they add anything significant to a mage's outfit.

Power does go up when you embed them. It just does not make sense.
Putting sapphires on your mages spirit does nothing. Sapphire increase the strength of physical moral attacks.

I too would like some clarification of this, especially the part in bold. Yes, we all know morale based heroes benefit from increases in skill attack because they, by nature, have a regular attack (physical) and a special attack (skill). Now here is where it is not clear ANYWHERE in game: every attack a Mage does is announced like a special attack. IF Mage's do benefit from skill attack, could it be that it increases the damage dealt, or possible the accuracy problem, or is it the chance of stunning/hitting all 5 heroes (shayd/smoulder, respectively)?
The confusion for me stems from a few sources.
1) As Andy noted, the addition of a sapphire does increase power, yet adept does nothing power wise. So is the sapphire just making the spirit more powerful, and if so does it translate into magic attack in any way?
2) The pronouncement of Skill Attacks. Why announce a morale based hero's special attack in the same manner as a Mage's normal attack if they are not both the same "type" of attack, i.e. Skill Attacks?
Again, I understand where people are coming from by saying a skill attack is only applicable to morale based heroes, however no where in game is that distinguished. Also, I find it interesting that at any given talent level (SoS ~ PA ~ IM) a Mage's attack is roughly equivalent to a morale based hero's skill attack, holding all else equal. Just some food for thought.
And here is another interesting point. Let say hypothetically by adding sapphires to the mage's spirit it does increase the damage or something beneficial for a mage.
A level 3 sapphire is only worth 190 which is not much in the grand scheme of things. Unless you are adding level 5,6,7 etc chips will you see a difference with such a small value from a level 3?
You can tell whether it adds power to your Mage by looking at the overall power gauge, rather than the spirit itself. Adding and removing sapphires will change the power of the spirit, but not the Mage.
I keep a lv2 chip on my spirit to prevent myself from accidentally selling it when I'm switching gear. It doesn't, however increase my Shayd or smoulders magic attack.

Than for a very informative reply. Now I have to decide if I pat 200 Gems to remove the two level 4 Sapphires I have on Shayd's Spirit or just leave them there to be wasted. It is probably cheaper to pay it that buy new ones in the Fair. It would be nice if Tynon would allow me to remove them without a penalty, but I know that will never happen.
