I doubt it. There cannot be a rational reason for upgrade failure to lose previous levels.
Beyond greed that is. If 100% success can fail then there really is no hope on stars.
I refuse to pay any more to get gems to buy stars that will disappear.
It's coded robbery, in my opinion.

If we didn't lose levels, then you could just rapid fire that upgrade button on fridays and saturdays and before you know it, half the server would have 12 stars on every hero, 15 on some. As much as I'd like to see the Success rate increase, I think losing levels has a good balancing effect. Imagine your frustration when every coiner on your server had full star sets on each hero. The one thing I don't like is the TWO star loss going from 6-7... Ouch is an understatement.

ya i agree with that is with the starsthey would be basically unstoppable.
