make a new character in Aerie. You can visit this person and exchange the map piece you have for the opposite side and it costs 250 gems

Guess what? There's a real simple solution to this whole problem.
1. Let someone make a right boat on the water.
2. Sink it. Use that right map piece to make another right boat.
3. Repeat until all left maps have been dismissed.

You are less likely to find a teammate who can sail with you because everyone knows which map piece you have, therefore your friends will never see one they can sink. Clear the shore lines and wait for someone to sail!!! I promise eventually the issue will go away if players stop getting on board knowing they dont have anyone to ride with them.

Not sarcasm Im dead serious. I really don't know why everyone is complaining. I love this supposed blockade its awesome.
But yeah 250 gem cost for map exchange was sarcastic. It should be 500.
But evil if you get a right and make a right boat be sure to pink me ill sink you - just not today I am out of sails

Only if you promise to make a right boat with the right map, so I can have someone sink you and get rid of these stupid left maps.
You may make it across but how many of your guild mates are still stuck wishing they could sail? Or at least try to sail... There are only ten boats, so the likelihood of your guild members sailing by you holding a boat decrease drastically... Its not just hurting other guilds by doing it, its hurting your guild to. Like it or not, I am right about this. Not sure why people think they need to hold boats anyways, no rewards in sitting there like a stick in the mud.

Most of my guild gets at least 1 sail in a day if not 2 or 3. I take 3 different people a day
And i will be sure to malk a right boat spec can grab a left
Oh and me and villainx accidentally made a right boat the other day, and noone even tried to sink us

Generally this happens with people who can't hang around the game all day spamming guild for maps...so before going afk they park on the docks, to either have someone steal the worthless map piece they couldn't get rid of, or have someone from the guild with the opposite piece hop on to get a sail in.

When your whole guild fills up with the same map, you'll figure it out. Destiny has it, that if everyone makes left boats, eventually there won't be anybody left who CAN steal a map to sail with YOU. Shoot yourself in the foot, fine by me. Claim isn't resetting maps, the midnight reset isn't changing what half of map you get. Downward spiral, to add in the fact that guild chests won't change your left to a right map. If no one can drop a map, no one can sail. Maybe you personally aren't guilty of holding a boat all day, but there are those who are holding the boats hostage so that NO ONE can sail. If players continue, there won't be any point in even playing pirates. Might as well shut it down completely, because the greed of a few, its ruining that portion of the game for a whole lot of people. Sink me all you want, but let me at least get on a boat for crying out loud so we can play.
