I don't see this as an abuse, but a fun variability during PVP/PVE. for example, you can change your chips to all emeralds to give u a nice HP boost and become a tank. You can take out the obsidians and put in more sapphires for Bloodstorm. You can take out all the topaz when going against a Mage-boss, and substitute with diamonds. Infinite variability for infinite fun
Not that it seems like Tynon developers particularly care about balance, but as a game designer you have to design around edge cases of power to prevent abuse. If someone can just stack a ton of physical defense chips to push through a boss, you have to design around that and make the boss harder so that it's not trivial and boring. Keeping players challenged is part of good game design, and granting them too much flexibility can also harm your game, even if it grants players more options that they like.

I'm all for removing gem costs to remove chips above level 4, and I'm all for carefully allowed cross-equipment chipping, but letting any chip go in any slot is a little bit too free-form and as I said before, it will help some players too much and also hurt other players who don't make good choices about what chips they put where.
