It's just wierd. This game costs more than others, alot more, thus I think the "intensity" of people's frustrations gets higher because there's alot more at stake. It wouldn't take much to allay fears, but just like the stock market "fear index" investors can get shaky here. In the case of this game, it's a lack of information or way-ahead, which in the corporate world would drop your company quicker than you can say "sell all" to your investment managers.
It wouldn't take much, just a few sentences from the dev team saying "this is what we are providing by that date. There is no intent to do this other thing, though." The fact we don't hear that tells me either there's not alot of focus on this project, or there isn't a plan to speak of. It just really doesn't make sense to me.
