Let Tynon worry about how much server space they are wasting, Make the best of the situation.
That was essentially my point, they're not structuring the server communities in such a way that it's conducive to long-term growth. I'm not saying they have to micro-manage things, but every month or two it wouldn't hurt to get an active population count and look at power curves among the top players of each realm to see if adjustments are warranted. I'm not saying take drastic measures but moving guilds around to servers with equivalent power levels and active player counts could only result in healthy competition.

I feel like this is a subject that keeps getting beat to death.

It doesn't matter how many people are or aren't on each server. The idea is to make as many as possible, because it sells the game as super-popular.

    How?

Easy. Noobs are always directed to the front of the wave. So whether the 100 servers behind them are dead or not, most will never be aware because they will be where the action is, so there's an appearance of fullness and growth. By the time the server dies, there's at least a few people left too invested to leave. But at least there are a hundred "full" servers out there for the casual observer. In a short time that will be several hundred.

"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

The largest problem is the same one they encountered in Evony. They have far to many people that click, play for an hour and then leave the game behind forever. But these dead accounts clog up server space, making the servers, to them, appear full. So they then release another server: repeat, repeat, repeat. They must develop an option to clear dead accounts off of servers to free up space and keep brining in more competition. I think servers that were full of a true 75-85% active population would be far more fun than any you all have previously described. if that means that there are only 40 truly active servers so be it. They will make more money in the long run, and attract more players.
