Servers aren't expensive to run, just to be clear. I'm not sure what sort of mythical thing people may think servers are, but I have a rack of them in my garage that add maybe $25 to my electric bill each month. Total. They are happy to sit and chug and churn and serve without an army of people fussing over them. Yes, we do upgrades. Yes, we do backups. Yes, on occasion we even go out there and clear off the dust bunnies that invade. If anyone would like to pay me a month's worth of what people likely spend on one server for Tynon for these tasks, please let me know. I would be happy to do nice things with this money.

(And yes, there are designers (art and code) and tech support (well, a canned list of tech support messages and probably one poor guy who does gem refunds) so I am aware that bottom line, it does cost more than an electric bill to run Tynon.)

Servers are cheap to run, however licensing for certain things can be expensive, especially if they're annual/monthly costs. Internet bandwidth can also get quite expensive for companies. If you need server-grade SSD drives or RAIDs, depending on your setup that can run a pretty penny too. There are other factors, but it really boils down to: Licensing, storage, and bandwidth are expensive. Software that allows you to scale out with more machines is cheap.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Tynon's setup consists of about a hundred VMs (one for each "server" to maintain game state) with a load-balanced internal data access cluster of VMs that can run calculations the actual server doesn't require (such as battles), as well as saving/retrieving required data from their database.

Essentially, I'm guessing optimally there is a 4-tier architecture in place. Game UI, Game Server, Calculation/Data Retrieval Service, Data Storage (be it database or disk). Managing something like that is more complex than you'd believe if you haven't dealt with something that complex before.

I have. And I do. And it's still not some mythical money pit that people make it out to be. Complicated? Yes, it can be. Computationally intense? I'm sure it is. Have to contract out for bandwidth? Yup.

Imo, the game is 'endgame' once most hit lvl 90. Rune slots are all full and the Justice set is the last set avail. Now by the time the majority of the players are geared to start getting the justice set will be purely on when Tynon removes the roadblocks in heroic. Im sure that if they removed them now there will be a few players already gunning for those sets due to their sheer power and setups, but thats completely killing off the last 'trumpcard' they have. In the meantime its important to keep the masses interested, a monthly(or bimonthly) championship is one step in the right direction. But they will have to think up a few other tricks to keep most interested.

I feel that most of the Tynon staff dont actually play the game and thus arent really in tune with whats going on. Sure there might be the odd person playing casually, but he(or she) might not encounter the same frustrations we all do. This is why its a good idea to at least, seriously consider the ideas of the community and not just say: we hear you. Then do nothing about it.

There are load of ideas in the forums(some really good and others okish) and yes working them out will take a lot of time. But at least make a post saying: guys we have taken your ideas into consideration and were going to build on that. This will take time, and as such we'll keep you updated when needed. <-- that alone would be enough to keep most of the playerbase happy.

What roadblocks in heroic? There are none.

    well theres a few.

first mud giant elite was set to impossible for weeks then set down.
next you have black widow queen and tracker give out the same plans instead of tracker also giving out cloaks like you would normally have as the progression
then theres the insane jumps in their power

These are road blocks designed to slow down progression pure and simple.
And what sucks is some of us will get through them and take all teh time needed to do it, then after we have done that they will make these bosses easier or add new heroes that make it easier, so all teh other players can get through these bosses a lot faster

Tracker and Blackwidow elite are really meant to give the same plan types. If you look at the first page of heroic realms, multiple bosses give out the same plan types as well.

You would be a lot happier if you don't worry about how others are progressing, and just focus on your own progress.

Then you can just go play a single-player game :P

The main thing that keeps me from donating is the cost of stuff.

I can donate about $20/month and thats just enough to summon the runekeeper !ONCE! $20 wort of gems to get a blue gem and depending on my luck on legendary keeper (not even sure its 100% that i will get to him by paying the 200gems) probably get a blue or maybe a purple, odds to get a yellow of him are way to low to consider.

10gems seems a more reasonable cost to summon her, and even that might be a tad high depending on chanses to move on to final keeper.
