The new cards are more realistic, but they have less personality in my opinion. I think the developpers would gain from reading Scott McCloud's theory on abstraction/identification in comics.

Basically, a realistic drawing is viewed as an "other", precisely because its realism makes it look like someone else and, thus, prevents you from identifying with it. On the other hand, a simplified and abstract drawing is easier to identify with because this notion of the "other" that looks so real isn't there. You can thus project yourself into the character.

When I say that the new heroes don't have personality, I mean that I see them as realistic and, thus, as "others". I don't connect to them because they are too "other" for me to identify with them.

I don't like them either, and I think it's important. I miss Calvin's unrealistic and simple face.
