I believe this is a glitch and should be reported immediately. If I'm not mistaken, something similar to this has happened before. I think a mod should review this and do something.

Removed since Dawnseeker, who works for uCool answered it.
It's a display error. If you refresh your game, the chip and all the gold from selling it will be gone.
