    You don't get it why would players buy Maria when they know they can get it for free. Yes the first time they would but when they find out that special heros will be available for free later on no one will spend money on something they can get for free now is it.

    Gems are not exactly free, maria can be sold for gems in the fair, so if someone doesn't wanna spend money they can save theri gems to buy her instad of using them in upgrading runes and gear.
