You have hit the enter button while the cursor was in that chat window = Blank messages are not allowed.As for the mails reappearing,thats a bug.I get the same mails sent to me (the ones i sent out) everytime i refresh.Tynon said they are working on it when i posted as a bug 3 weeks ago.
