The text was very clearly "has recruited Maria from the Card Dealer" and not the gained Maria's Card text you normally see. Also, the guildie was pleased in chat to have "finally gotten her without paying".

i think you might be right here, i never considered it, but, if you click on the card dealer heroes, leaders cards are shown too. so that makes me think, if you can gain a leader card, why not maria?

You can only get the cards for gold heroes which you have unlocked from title or bought like maria, if you haven't gotten maria you can't get her from card broker either.

I am not sure how this plays out.

If you go to card broker and click view cards it only shows cards you have unlocked and/or recruited.

Maybe this is a one off glitch because it is maria.

Maybe it is intended

I have asked others who do no have maria to see if maria shows in the card broker for them, and all have said the card is not there.

SO this needs clarified by devs, are you suppose to be able to get cards from the card broker if you have not recruited or unlocked the hero previously?

I mean the likely hood of getting a gold card in the first place is rare, so its not too big of a deal, but this could turn into the fair where people bought Khan and pompey with out beating them in royal arena first

Including reputation and being able to keep their hero's even if they didn't have the rep for it. if he spent coins for the 1st time he will get maria. they have changed the newbie package so you now get maria and not alexa anymore.
