Yes
No
Look at how many people voted on this poll. 44 players atm. That is not representative of the number of players in the game. So forums imo is not the most effective place to post info from the devs. NOt opposed to having them post here at all, but I think it would be more effective in a email newsletter or on the main home page
But some of the most active players come to the forum regularly, they are also the ones that will begin to test and disseminate information quickly throughout the servers. Also the OP asked for a closed thread I.E. one that cannot be commented on by the regular player base. It wouldn't become muddled with our ranting, etc.
Also I inform my guild and server of what goes on on the forum. The info will get there.
I am fine with any form of communication that can not be commented on.
As long as there is communication.

you already have it! its here and here. all you need to do is make them post there and update the information! the last post in the patchnotes section for example was started in september (!!!).
you keep on emphasizing on how you are a company and have to make a living. thats fine and very reasonable, but then i almost intend to tell you "do something for your money and keep your customers up-to-date". the most important key element in customer service is communication. everytime you have a problem with your server you leave everyone unclear about what is happening. they are longing for a statement, ANY statement like "sorry we are down right now, its not on your end" or whatever.
so again: make them AND yourself use the existing tools to provide a better customer service and show your customers that you do care.
I think the suggestion is to make a post in the tynon news section that lets us know the upcoming updates before they happen (and the rough time frame in which they will be implemented). Patch notes come after the features have been implemented, but those are nice as well.
Since this was originally my idea as posted in another thread, I will explain why I thought it worthwhile.
- The idea is to have a 'bulletin board' kind of facility where the developers can keep us up to date on what is going on.
- I picked the forum because it is the most widely use facility outside of the game itself.
- Where in the forum is places does not make a difference. Tynon News is fine.
- By having one tread where only developers can post you do not have to wade trough the raves and rants and to see what the 'official' word is.
- It does not replace the Patch notes. Those would still be there and open to discussion.
- It is not a place for the developers to post information about current problems, like server outages. It is a place for information on what they are they are working on or plan to work on or are considering to maybe work on.
- What I envisioned is a place that the Developers can keep us informed as to what enhancements/fixes we can expect and a a gross time frame for them. For example, Dawnseeker said several months ago that the relocation of the Banner was something they were working on but nothing since then. That would be one of the items listed.
- It does not preclude having discussion a treads on the items in the list. It may be a good idea for the Devs to start a discussion tread for each item that is posted and put the link in the 'bulletin board'. This way we would not have a zillion different treads discussing the same thing.
- By having only the developers update the 'bulletin board' the information there can be kept current and easy to find. Everything is in one tread.
- It will require a commitment by the developers in keeping it updated. If they do not it is useless.
In addition to this, there could be another tread that is also 'closed' except to the developers where they can post mayor problems, like server outages. This will provide a place that players can check instead of having umpteen 'can not log on to server xx' trad when it is a known outage. It will also provide a place to see when the outage is resolved without having players constantly trying to log on to see if it is fixed since doing it can potentially delay fixing the problem.
Thank you for this Andy
Brilliantly worded can not be better
Much Appreciated
Yes I agree Andy very well said
