What is the gem cost to unlock the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc gem sockets in gear?

I can't seem to find this info anywhere so I'm asking here for planning purposes.

2nd slot is 1 gem and hope quality item
3rd slot is 10 gems and champion quality item
4th slot is 20 gems and guardian quality item
5th slot is 40 gems and ironheart quality item
6th slot is 80 gems and lightbringer quality item
7th slot is 160 gems and justice quality item
8th slot is 320 gems and judgement quality item

Just want to say, I think there should be an alternative way to open these other than gems only. That is an outrageous amt and non-spenders or budgeted players are prevented from using what seems to me to be an important function for heroes. This handicaps them unfairly. (I say this as a VIP with most of mine open.) But I see that with the pittance of gems earned, and low drop rate of gems in arena, this would really be impossible for many. I don't understand why that is gem-only, on a free game. Or why using chips past say the 2nd or 3rd slot would be a privileged "bonus" for VIPs. Bear in mind that those are on every piece of gear for every hero in form + sub, this adds up very quickly.

631 x 6=3786 gems per hero 18,930 for 5 heroes, then add 631 for 1 sub (so far) Just for chip slots.

i know the pain, i am a Restricted VIP member myself, can't afford to open the slots as they are very very costly. I am yet to open a few 40 gem slots, i save them for a Thorsday, its worth saving it. Like mischief said there should be an alternate open the slots. 19561 gems for 6 heroes is very very very costly infact.
