Heck I'm not a big spender on this game and have no where near the wallet size to even compete.

I think CW has been very good in this regard. There's only a handful of people that have the wallets to get into top 8, but the tickets have given the smaller spenders access to stuff that previously required a lot of gems to acquire. And betting on matches to get these tickets keep the rest of the players involved and for the most part, everyone has pretty close to equal access to the tickets (sure, you are going to win more tickets by getting further in the elimination rounds, but not by too much more)

I would agree with this, it's helped me massively with my starring. The tickets are and will always remain one of the best bits.
