How bout instead of removing stars entirely from CWF, just multiply their cost by a factor of 2, 4, or even 5? And with the added costs of medals required to gain stars at higher levels, in addition with 3 new levels of purple stars, the star system will be perfectly balanced. In my opinion, optimal balance can be achieved if the cost in tickets was multiplied by a factor of 2.
