Matt,
This would essentially be re-coding a ton of the current application to a point it is not even the same game anymore. If this was to be done, they mine as well make a new game. The Realm-less idea is a good one, but to implement this, one would have to look at the complexities of how we would merge the DB's and the complex array of server load issues. I get the feeling the servers are all running on a "VM" and so they can spin one out pretty fast.
To do what you are asking would take a very long time and it would not be cost feasible in my opinion.
But nonetheless, it is a very insightful thought you have put together here.
Thanks
Another brilliant waste of a thread. Matt, you keep asking for more content. So why keep making up new games?? Age 2 .... *rolls eyes*

Some ideas sound fun, others a bit far fetched, uCool cant run all servers in combat for small amounts of time, let alone all the time.
They are a small company, what you are asking is a big brand name overhaul.

A lot of things in this post- it might split into several different discussions on certain ideas.
Yay for new events.
I'm also not sure about guild level being based on number of members... would think the server might just make one big guild over time (especially since it makes sense for each individual to join the largest guild).
Getting rid of realms would actually help a lot over in my server... it would certainly feel like there are more of us around. Don't think we could depend on server merges though... I don't normally like to think that many birthdays ahead.
I have always liked the multi-realm setup that is alive and well on servers 1-10. It would be nice if all servers were like that, and we know why they aren't. It makes the game a bit more diverse, each realm having a different set of rules and players. Server 1 is a perfect example. Dark Realm is where the crazy people migrated too. Forest realm is quiet and relaxing. Light realm is the "beginner" or small fry realm. Fire Realm is the professional realm and I have no idea what Water Realm is. That is the way I personally see it, even if it sounds like nonsense to you. All realms DO differ quite a bit. I'd not enjoy it as much if they were merged into one realm.
Matt, you have an amazingly creative mind for MMO gaming and your idea's are awesome. I hope some of them take hold some day, even if they seem out of touch at the moment.

You seem to be a fan of 1-guild servers. Remember that the purpose of a game is to promote competition, not eliminate it. Otherwise you're just "playing with yourself" down there.
