How do I get the materials to upgrade apprentice level equipment? I've looked evrywhere....
After you complete some of the quest line, you will unlock areas that have monsters you can fight for materials. If you bring up your weapon by clicking the arrow on it in the hero tab, you can lift-click on the materials and you will automatically farm them (you need the plans for the upgrade before the arrow appears, which drop from various Heroic Realm bosses).

You need to have the plan for the item you want to upgrade. You can get these by beating the bosses in Heroic Realm. Once you have the plan you want, click it in your inventory and open it. You will see the items you need to craft that equipment. It should be the item of lower value + 3 items you can find in the wild, such as apples, flowers, and feathers, which are used, of course, to craft equipments. Click one of the items that you can grind in the wild, and it will start auto-grinding for you. You can also do it manually by clicking the auto-level up feature and choosing the item you need. This is useful when you don't have the plans yet, but want to burn up some stamina so as to have no waste.
Useful info - thanx, ChickenWing. So far only get sword and staff plans, no materials... maybe I'm not up to the level in HR that awards material? Also, I've only gone in the wild to kill - where would I look for apples and such?
All I've evr got from killing is credits and experience. What an I doing wrong, Pirate?
You get plans from HR and material from by beating monsters (not bosses) in the wilds. If you have a plan click on the up arrow on the equipment and it tell you what materials you need. Click on the first picture of the materials and if you have opened the Wilds area for that material you start auto-grinding until you get all the materials you need. If you have not opened up that area you need to continue the quests until you do.Originally Posted by Felyse_5920601

....but not 2day. Materials are in a locked wild. What quests? Do u mean keep working the wilds that I am allowed into?

On the right side of the screen the quest are listed. If you click on the quest name you go on auto quest mode and tour toon will go to ne next place that you need to go and continue the quest.
If you click on the Gold double arrow then the quest is hidden like in the next picture. Click on it again and it comes back.
Some times when you are on auto quest mode you stop moving after a battle. If that happens, just click on the quest again. When you are questing be on the lookout for treasure chests. Auto quest will not open them. You need to click somewhere in the screen to stop auto quest and then click on the chest to open it to get the coins inside it.
There are several areas that you have to go through on each quest and there are conditions that have to be met to exit the area. The first are you come to is where you actually grind for material. There is no need to fight any monster here if you are questing. You just move to the next area using the portal. Sometimes is to kill all the monsters and sometimes it is something else. If it is not to kill all the monsters, then you do not have to kill them to exit. In the last area for the quest you will find the quest boss. It is a lot harder to defeat that the other monsters. Once you have satisfied the exit conditions for this area then next grinding area will be unlocked and you will be able to get the materials that it supplies.

Great! Figured it out yesterday. Did well till I ran out of stamina... waiting for it to rebuild.
