There is a post from Herby on another tread that says that buying the Gems to bring the Dragon all the way up is about the same as buying a house, and you can not get a mortgage for the gems.

you all start with the assumption things are intended to be maxed out at some point.
perhaps the INTENT is for it to be effectively open ended ...
and stay that way so they don't have to add a patch to extend it again.
Just a thought
