i don't mean to be the party pooper here, but i dont think splitting them up into smaller steps is the best way. the reason for this is because its simply not enough. let's make an example: on a small investment a guy gets according to the old system 55 contributions on his 10% (50+5 nice round number, reality is 53) now he increases his techs by 1% = 55.5 and he will still get 55 contribution coz there is no half points. ok i admit its a very basic example and its not a lot and they would probably never notice, until the day someone tells you that you got screwed by the equivalent of a decent investment.
now contributions dont pop too much into the eye, but start to think about XP for example and it will be 1 level difference.
i couldnt agree with you more here and this was exactly what went thru my head (and example for you: someone got to today almost 800k reputation on a decent investment, i dont think he got it, but the point is that its causing errors and a prior functioning system).
i think that instead of giving you the illusion by being better (higher %), the cost should have just been reduced to upgrade them.
