Smoulder won Block from hero card - why?

I sanctified Smoulder and he got +15 Block. Has anyone ever seen Smoulder block before? Why would they have this as a bonus for a mage?

He blocks as well as his block percentage allows him to block, just like any other hero

Is the block from sanctifying different from the Block from the resistance rune? I've never seen a mage block in battle.

Pretty sure it's the same. Mages block but don't counterattack and block reduces damage (I think).

Never seen it, but some players claim that block provides a damage decrease regardless of whether there is a block or not (I'm not one of those players (bring on the people who tell me to all these tests and when I do I see different results from what they claim I should see)).

block works for all toons. mag or blockers/attackers

In quests, I have seen mages block my attack before! I think it only works for quests, not PvP.
