Food for thought. Are New Servers the True Server Killers?

This is someone I've been pondering most of the day today on server 119, the second day after server 120 opened.

Attendance in the fire realm for baal went down from the 70's & low 80's all the way down to the 40's. Many people appear to have left today. Server 119 was a really hot server, it was very active until 120 came out. Now it seems like a lot of people just cut and ran. This is just something to consider, food for thought if you will. Many people don't want servers to die and would like to play on an active server, and some have laid the blame on coiners for killing servers. However that is simply untrue. Server 119 has some of the most hardcore coiners I've seen and still the server was extremely active (until server 120 came out that is).

I have some friends (maybe you are one of them:P) who went to server 119 but who are putting their real efforts on 106. I suspect they might have given up playing 2 servers.

To answer you perawind.... yes and no.

Yes: when a new server opens, it will take a portion of the population from older servers. The more recent the server, the more likely emigrants will jump to the new server. In other words, s120 will receive a lot from 119, a little less from 118, a bit less from 117, 116, etc..

No: Consider the alternative. LAG! Lag would kill the fun of a server almost as fast as a 1-guild-server monopoly. Except with lag, people will just play other games instead (ie: quit the game). With monopoly, they either quit or try their luck on a new server (s120).
another reason on no: opening new servers is a subtle way of advertising to people that the game is popular. When a game stops opening new servers, people wait .... and wait .... and when the wait exceeds their patience, they wonder if the game is dying.

Personally I dont see the need for new servers.

I think all servers need merged until they reach the numbers found on servers 1-5 of active accts.

Too many people have these servers with under 100 players per server.

Most of the realms on server 1 have 100 players per realm.

SO stop opening the new servers ad merge alot more servers. Then after all those mergers open a few new servers. DO another round of merges then more new servers. trust me this will work better

My guess is that the reason server 1 has so many active players is because they are the hard core players that were part of the beta.

    So. whats your point

All severs should not be considered full untill they have over 100 active accts per realm IMO.

Part of my reasoning is I am sick of seeing players reach marhsall and other achievements in this game weeks to months faster then players on the Original servers. And the main reaosn they are able to do this is because of the small population of players on these new servers. Less competition means more rewards for all.

Would be a good suggestion if they increased stupid banish coin/credit cap as well. That cap is the main reason server 1 is getting shafted right now. Merging servers to equal realm populations (so newer servers have around 60% pop of S1-S10) and opening up the banish caps will help ensure balance, fairness, and fun.

Ummmm, nope. Removing the banish cap would hurt s1-10 much moreso. Why? Because it means the cap is also removed from those servers where 1 person gets over 50% of Cerb/Baal.

Remember: ~90% of your coins/credits income should not come from Cerb/Baal, or any one singular event. It's only asking for an imbalance at a geometric rate.

We merge servers when necessary to maintain adequate populations. This shouldn't be an issue.

i think that happened on most or maybe even all servers like that. they play, build toons and high attendance and if the hero turns out bad, unlucky, or whatever they move onto the next server. some get 1k gems for an early boost, maybe multiple times. some become "coiners" and decide to stay and try to buy their way to the top. you will see the same happening on 120 after 121 opened.
