In normal tournament seeding the first ranked player will face the lowest rank player, 2nd rank the next to the lowest, etc. The players are distributed on the brackets so that the 1 and 2nd seed will not face each other until the finals. The rest of the players are placed on the brackets in similar fashion. This way the higher ranked players will not be eliminated (unless there is an upset) in the early rounds by facing another high ranked player.

This is a seeding chart for a tournament of 128 players. It is too small for our purposes, but it illustrates the concept pf seeding. http://www.printyourbrackets.com/pdf...teamseeded.pdf

    Someone just got pwned.

In other news, i think some sort of division-system would be nice but the current system works just fine. However. if there are brackets based on power, higher powered plowers would just power down during signups and enter the lower brackets, then power up to regular form and demolish. That wouldnt be happy.

The game already tracks your highest recorded power. Simply use that rather than your current power. Not saying there are no challenges or issues with creating brackets, but people can't just simply power down like in HP.

Chess player here (around 2280 and apparently that's a lot). Normally (in a swiss) the top ranked plays the top ranked in the second half (so someone around the middle). Second ranked plays the second in the second half...etc... and then the top ranked in the first half plays the lowest rank.

The new pairings are based off of both score, ratings, and colour (who went first)... and need to be generated after each round, rather than preset beforehand.

I never played in a knockout tourney in chess, so not sure what that's about. There are sometimes different sections in tournaments... or sometimes different sections just for the prizes (i.e. if you are 2000, you can play 2400 people but people U2000 can win the U2000 prize).

correct but thats not a knock out tournament.
chess was meant as an example and not to take it literally. its to explain those guys what a knockout tournament is about. what they are trying to implement is a different style and structure of a tournament, more like something where everyone is in their leagues and at the end you can have the winners of the divisions play against each other for a grand prize or whatever.

ps: gratz on your FIDE rating and FYI the top 100 players have a 2600-2700 rating and you should sign up at a club first and then go to tourneys or something

I never played in a knockout. Personally I don't mind the current CFW system, but changing it could be interesting as well. It would certainly get us a lot more close matches, rather than the 1 or 2 we get currently. The betting part is boring for me, so changing the structure might be a good thing for me.

ps: Sorry, it wasn't my FIDE. My FIDE is something like 2150 because I don't play in a lot of international tournaments. 2280 is my CFC (Canadian rating).
