More likely they expect you to keep upgrading and pay the on going Gem fee to do 100% exp transfer to the new mount.

Keeping you at a steady 4 - 5 stars for most players but progressively gain hp as you upgrade mounts with more coins to spend .. slowing you down from achieving end game black smith and rune levels.
You know there are days when I go, "you know the uCool company pretends to be idiots but are really smart and have things set up ingeniously"
ANd then I look at the mounts and I go "Maybe they are not pretending"
