For golden dragon you need a level 11 resistance rune in front of the skeleton iirc. After that high nimbleness and high damage.
A year? What is your build priority? It sounds like you are not making the best choices if you aren't progressing over a year.
1) Are you one of those people that builds gear evenly on thor's day? If so, stop that and focus on your weapons and spirits.
2) Do you use CW as an opportunity to buy purple stars to star up your heros, or do you buy cards from CW (which isn't the best choice)
3) Do you have a decent banish form to farm cerberus and baal, which can get you a lot of gold and credits that you need to build?
4) Do you do lab? Lab is absolutely essential to progressing, and if you don't have good spirits you will have a really hard time advancing. I see lots of players who neglect their labs and have sub par spirits. If you have done your labs each day for a year, your spirits should be really good.
5) If you do labs, do you use your tokens to buy spirit plans? If not then do labs and get those plans. Some people buy weird things with tokens, but the plans are the most important. Only buy something else when all 7 characters in your party have sirius spirits.
6) Do you make good choices for champions? Sometimes I see the strangest parties out there. People maining King Horemheb, General Mulan, Bloodstorm, Dawnbringer, Smoulder or Pompey, or people using Shayd outside of a banish party. Shayd is a pet peeve of mine, way to many people use her outside of her limited role (banish, and 1 Royal Challenge fight).
7) Do you use Herja? Herja is by default a best in class support champion before Ezekiel and should be in every party if you don't have Ezekiel. Normally I don't use the word noob, since it can be triggering, but it is apt here. Only noobs don't use herja and/or Ezekiel. In fact I highly doubt that anyone who doesn't use herja has beaten Ezekiel anyways, so the Ezekiel point is moot.
8) Optimal choices for champions for HR/Story, Queen Pent, Maria (some fights), Adam, Rhize, Alcibiades, Theseus, Khan, and HERJA. Study the formations in HR for each fight and then optimize accordingly. For royal challenge use flavius with a mix of the champions already mentioned for HR/Story. I found flavius useful in every fight in Royal Challenge after you get him. And again, study the formations for royal challenge, they sometimes swap in certain champions that are strategically important for specific matchups.
9) Do you understand how stats work? Dodge prevents all damage when your character dodges, you can dodge skill attacks with high dodge runes, increasing survivability. Level 12 dodge runes are great. Hit Rating on mages (if you use them, that is you should where they are applicable) is a must. This goes for Maria, Queen B, and any mages you use in banish to stun. I recommend you do a dodge build.
10) Block reduces damage by 1 half for regular attacks. High block runes in front of certain enemies can be the difference between survival and defeat. The golden dragon fight in particular is one of the fights where this is paramount. Block also passively reduces damage, so you take less damage when you have good block runes as well.
11) Gem spending? How do you spend your gems. Do you optimize for the best rewards, like buying stars in lab and the fair on Fridays. Do you spend gems on thors day to upgrade your gear, this is another good way to spend gems.
That's about it for now, if you adapt to the above advice, you should be able to beat the golden dragon, especially if you've been stuck on him for a year already. Later bosses will take much more time to beat than the golden dragon, so learning how to build properly will help speed up your progress.
