Actually what you need is good counter-magic. Bubble spells can be effective for years, or even decades against entire covens, however, as a magician or sorcerer or mage grows in skill the bubble spell gets frustrating. The urge to do something like take down the entire coven gets to be urgent after watching ones friends die. Be patient, take up a religion, learn something about character. Attitude is just the surface, develop an objective outlook a universal outlook. There is only magic energy out there that can be bent to suit the mage's desires. Just get rid of all those old magic books, tarot decks, voodoo dolls, spell casting terminals, and bless them in holy water or holy fire or the fire-walker lava, or sacred soil - choose an element, a path. Taking the magic energy and building a sacred space for yourself is necessary as a new mage. Eventually, it will be easy to split up entire covens, to steal horns off morlocks, to give them to squirrels or make the morlocks eat those horns as well as the hornworms. Some morlocks beg for exorcism, others, need to be exorcised or conflicted. Sure, I'm penitent, magic is not a blessing for anyone. However, I have survived decades of actual morlockian threats.
Squirrels like gnome hats, however, the morlock hats protect their intangible ears, and psychics with a working third eye will be amused at the sight of a squirrel in a gnome hat. Doing this while throwing millet or amaranth around for the squirrel to eat is a good thing, as many squirrels have been reduced to eating dung. This is not good for the psyche of a squirrel, excrement is not to be eaten. Squirrels can also be trained to eat dandelion flowers mixed with cleome flowers and an analgesic such as vetch or clover when acorns are scarce. Squirrels are frequent targets for death spells, so be kind to them.
