Control on our stakes, help?

Hi. I'm new to Tynon and need some help regarding the arena and stakes. I had a couple fights recently where I lost 70k coins and upward in each fight. I believe these duels happened while I was offline.
Is there any way to limit what I stake?
I am aware of selecting stakes (where I am able to click one of three options), but I never see five or six figure coin stakes there.
I guess I just want to know how it is possible to lose five-six figure amount in coins, but when I win, I usually only see four figure coin amounts or other basic stakes. Is there anyway I can avoid losing such high amount of coin?

I'm afraid that some stakes selected are random. Occasionally you could be lucky to have gems as your reward. In that case most guilds have a no hit policy for their guildmates. If you do keep the stakes they stick around for another 10 minutes after the cool down, after which they disappear for good.

Work on getting stronger to hold your position and stakes.
