You lose a saint level for every higher saint title your hero reaches. A Saint loses 1 sanctification during the transfer; a half-angel loses 2; an angel loses 3; etc. Some heroes are cheaper to sanctify than others. Those cheapest heroes are the ones that cost less spirit to redeem at the tavern. If you want to make a transfer worth it, you might want to consider bringing the "original" hero to at least half-angel V to make it really worth it.

You don't need to spend money to reach high saint levels; you just need good planning. Have an objective in mind, set yourself a plan with rules to follow, and abide by them.

It is harder to gain new sanctifications at the beginning of the game because credits are more expensive. Tavern Tuesday is thus less interesting for beginners. You can usually average 1 spirit per 20,000 credits on Tavern Tuesday. Because a more powerful players gets more credits per gem at the shrine, it is more interesting for him to take advantage of that day to burn a lot of credits in the tavern. If you seek comparison, a new player may get 50,000 credits per gem, whereas an advanced player may get 700,000 credits. Sanctifications are thus more expensive gem-wise at the beginning of the game. For that reason, if you are a beginning player, I wouldn't worry too much about sanctifications. I am sure you can find a better use for your gems and credits (by better use, I mean an investment that will bring you more power for your gems).

If you are an advanced player, you might want to have a longterm plan in mind (over several weeks) so that you know which hero you want to sanctify (Queen P, Ahmose, Flavius, Lance, Calvin will all be very useful to you). When you have chosen which hero you want to sanctify, choose a cheap hero from which to transfer. Those are the ones, as I mentioned earlier, that cost fewer spirit to redeem in the tavern (Saffron, Calvin, Valla, Cianna, Ahmose, and Alexa). You may notice that some heroes that will be useful to you are among the cheapest spirit-wise. This means that you should not transfer to those heroes, but saint them up from the beginning. Ahmose and Calvin are those 2 heroes.

Another reason to transfer is if you have bad sanctifications on a hero. This will prevent you from having to spend gems to remove those sanctifications, and it will prevent you from losing all you saint levels by keeping some. For instance, if your AHmose has bad sanctifications, you might want to consider transfering to another hero.

    I hope this helps.

Short answer is no. Don't do any transfers yet.

The long answer. The best way to use transfers is to saint up a hero that you can buy the cards at the tavern cheap (500 spirits for purple and 800 spirits for Gold) and then transfer to a hero where the cost of the cards is a lot higher.
