Arena stakes half

Can someone tell me why I only get half of the stakes in the arena. For example, I move my mouse over and it says 100 gems, I click it and receive 50. Same thing happened with experience, coins & credits, but really the most frustrating was the 3 times it happened with gems. Good thing a chest can't be cut in half...

because when you take someone elses stake you get half

if its something you put you get full if you defend it for 30 minutes

so that the defender will have something left to them
